Stalking you with banner ads

+ BrandRepulic has a article on a new feature from Google. After visiting a brand site, it's now possible for ads for the brand to follow you around (at least if you visit other sites within Google's Contest Network).

Google is calling the new feature ‘remarketing'. It enables advertisers to tailor online ads based on users' web habits.

People would be able to opt-out if they wanted but is it true permission marketing if someone just goes to visit a website? Seems to go against everything that is currently set up for purposes of "opt-in" rules.

Some might feel like they are being stalked by brands, and some just might not notice it. Either way it is interesting and could have potential.

Live banner ads

+ Darryl at Brandflakesforbreakfast pointed out this neat idea from Mediafront in Norway. Copywriters monitor the websites where media placement is live and create live commentary ads through sketches and words on the changing content of the website. Crazy. It's a fantastic idea, but I don't know that I'd want to be one of the writers...And they must have had a very trusting client to let them produce ads that they didn't approve. ;)
Don't see this happening with any of my current clients for that reason. It's definitely an innovative way to be relevant. :)

Silverlight launches and some neat banner ads

+ Silverlight 1.0 released. Web sites that already use Silverlight include Entertainment Tonight, HSN and World Wrestling Entertainment, Major League Baseball and Disney Interactive.

Twister banner ad - Dude nipple.

Funky Coca Cola banner ad from Spain.

Interesting banner ad for Gilette from Brazil. Although I think I prefer this Schick banner ad which incorporates a game and provides a more interesting interaction.

Nice Ariel "Think Clean" banner
