Today's Addy News
Is color important to brand identy?- Adweek looks at the relationship between logos and branding and the colors that are selected. "Most brand consultants agree that color can be a powerful tool—"the dress of the brand," as Cheryl Swanson, principal of brand consultancy Toniq, puts it. "It communicates viscerally and can get to the essence of a brand story," she says, noting that people tend to remember colors and shapes first, then numbers and words. "You can achieve a lot with the clever use of color, stirring strong emotions." Pretty interesting stuff, IMO.

Poster giant says SARS will impact advertising- "Although the Sars disease did not significantly affect transport in the first quarter, we expect a negative impact in the second quarter particularly in the Asia Pacific region, which will slow the recovery in the division."

The Hidden Power of Advertising is a new book that discusses the brain's power to absorb branding messages, advertising and all the other things that are taken in to account when making a purchase. "For over 70 years, the universal assumption has been that advertising is only effective if it consciously persuades consumers to choose a particular brand. In such circumstances attention is critical, which is why most of the advertising industry’s creative resource is focused on achieving the highest possible levels of interest and awareness. However, recent neuro-scientific research has shown that the brain’s capacity to absorb certain types of brand information is far greater than ever imagined. Building on these findings, Heath has been able to explain how advertising creates meaningful brand associations, even when we pay virtually no attention to it. These associations exert a powerful influence on our intuitive feelings, and can unknowingly drive us to choose and buy particular brands." Sounds like it would be an interesting read.
This or That Tuesday
Which is more comforting for you...
1. Lying down on the couch, or stretching out on a recliner? Lying down on the couch
2. Going barefoot or wearing soft slippers? barefoot
3. Eating ice cream, or pizza? depends on my mood
4. Watching on TV...a classic movie or a reality show? classic movie
5. Wearing: blue jeans or sweat pants? sweat pants- although i prefer pj bottoms
6. A long, soothing bubble bath or a quick, invigorating shower? depends on my mood
7. Furniture: leather, or something more on the fuzzy side? something more fuzzy
8. Soft, classical music, or upbeat rock & roll? depends on my mood
9. Darkness or light? depends on my mood
10. Thought-provoking question of the week: You get married, or otherwise begin cohabitating with a significant other. S/he moves into your place, but brings with them the UGLIEST chair you have ever seen! You really don't want this thing in your home, but SO says it is the most comfy chair s/he has ever sat in, and no way will they part with it. Do you: grin and bear it, or scheme to get rid of the montrosity somehow? Take the 3rd option and discuss getting it covered or something.

PromoGuy's Monday Mission
1. Postmodernism (a popular philosophy of the current day) indicates that there are as many "truths" as there are people; nothing is absolute (however, by its very nature, even the word 'Postmodernism" resists definition). For yourself, what truths are absolute? Are there any absolute truths in the Universe? Goodness what a deep question. I think I have some myself- or those that I'd like to believe. Universe-wise, I think more of them have to do with physics and science type things- although those can always change as we go.
2. Do you believe that you are still "teachable?" Yes.
3. To do something well, in most situations, requires study and practice. What's the most recent thing that you have done well as a result of study and practice. Um..My job I guess.
4. If you had the time/money, what do you want to lean how to do more than anything? Be a real chef or paint or write or act or too many things!!
5. Those around us may often try to intervene, but ultimately each individual is responsible for the choices they make in life. Tell me about a recent situation where you had a decision to make, and those around you tried to influence or direct you. Were they successful? Was that "help" welcomed? They just confirmed what I knew. But the help and suggestions were welcome.
6. Things are much easier to accept when they are given by invitation rather than being forced upon us. When was the last time you rejected something because it was forced on you? How did it happen? Did you hold a grudge about it? Was it ever resolved? I don't usually have something forced on me, and can't think of the last time it was done.
7. Are you the sort of person who questions everything, or are you able to accept things without someone providing you tangible proof? Somewhere in the middle. There are some things I will just accept without tangible proof- but there are other things that if you cannot prove it to me, I don't believe it.
BONUS: Ooo baby, do you know what that's worth? About a buck fifty. ;-)

Sound of silence
Thursday Threesome - View From Afar
Onesome: View- What is your favorite scenic site, either around your place, where you've traveled, or just that one special picture (like that Ansel Adams "Half Dome" shot)? The view of the ocean, when you're just sitting on the beach, watching the waves crash on the sand.
Twosome: From- How far is it from home to work? Are you a long distance commuter or do you just schlep on into the dining room/office? Anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour and a half. Although some days, when I don't have a real job, it's just schleping to the study to do job research.
Threesome: Afar- for the travelers out there, just how far have you gone? I mean, is the trip to Grandma's about it? ...or have you made it farther abroad? Furthest I've traveled so far is Italy. I'd like to change that some day though.

Thursday Thumb-Twiddler
1. You've been given the chance to go back to a point in your life and change a single decision you made; you'll lose everything that happened since then, but you'll get to live in the shiny new parallel timeline that develops. Would you? What would you change? And would you want to keep the memory of this timeline, too? I don't know that I would. I guess really the only thing I'd change that I can think of, is looking for jobs while I had one, instead of thinking everything was going to be ok.
2. If you could legally sell your vote in the next Presidential election -- hand someone a signed, blank ballot in exchange for money -- would you do it? And what price would you ask? I wouldn't.
3. What one object to you own that has the most sentimental value to you? The most...that's a tough one. Lots of things have different sentimental values because of the different people they are associated with.

Remember the Snorks? No? Well here's a summary.

How many socks have you worn in your lifetime? Apparently I have worn approximately 6500 pairs of socks, and owned approximately 750 pairs of socks. Who knew? (and really, who cared! *hah*) (via popculturejunkmail)

Heinz suspends advertising in 'five portions a day' row- "Heinz has suspended advertising for one of its products until clarification about how much it contributes to the recommended daily five portions of fruit or vegetables. It follows a ruling by the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA), which highlighted a discrepancy over the correct number of portions in Heinz tomato soup."

Court Rejects Cleveland Billboard Ad Ban- "A U.S. Appeals court today rejected Cleveland's attempt to revive an ordinance that bars alcohol marketers from advertising on the city's billboards because they could be seen by children."

2003 Adage Agency Report is out. "The U.S. ad business barely averted a second consecutive year of decline by eking out 0.6% growth in advertising." Not the best news, but it could be worse.

Whoops! Posters promoting next week's Welsh Assembly elections were put up in Scotland's capital. Talk about a "slight" problem!

Here we go loopty loo, here we go loopty lee...
This or That Tuesday - What Is...
1. Yummier: Chocolate ice cream or strawberry cheesecake? Cheesecake.
2. Better to watch on TV: Movies or sports? Movies
3. A better web browser: MSIE or Netscape (or tell us your own favorite!) Netscape
4. A better way to travel: Automobile or bus/train? Automobile
5. Your preferred camera: Digital or film? I like them both.
6. A Cooler Vehicle: Motorcycle or sports car? Sports car.
7. More fun: Video games or board games? I like them both.
8. Sexier: A perfect body or an intelligent mind? Intelligent mind (in a perfect body ;) )
9. A stinkier smell: Skunk or gasoline (petrol)? Skunk
10. Thought-provoking question of the week: What is more important to you: making a ton of money and being at the top of your field, or finding your soulmate and living a comfortable but not wealthy life? Hmm. I guess the second one but I would enjoy being at the top of my field, not for the money but for the accomplishment of it.

Can't touch this...
Monday Madness
1. What three adjectives would you use to describe your best friend? Honest, fun, sweet.
2. Please fill in the blank (and feel free to elaborate!).... "When I dance, I look like ___." I look like I'm having fun.
3. What is the longest word that you can think of? Define it.
This week I am posting a bonus question in honor of Easter.
4. What is your favorite flavor of jellybeans? What is your least favorite flavor? Favorite is grape. Least fave are the black ones. I don't like black licorice.

PromoGuy's Monday Mission 3.16
1. Now that the weather (in America, that is) is getting nice and warm, what have you been looking forward to doing the most? Just being able to be outside in the sunshine.
2. On Easter, I had to run around all day visiting family. It turned what was supposed to be a special day and turned me into one big stress-ball. Do you enjoy spending time with your family (parents, siblings, etc.) or do you prefer to see them now and then? I enjoy spending time with them.
3. Did your parents play along with the whole "Easter Bunny" legend? Did you eventually figure it out or did someone tell you? How did that make you feel? I figured it out I think. It was a bit sad but even after I knew the truth, my mum kept it up for a while which was nice.
4. This isn't necessarily a religious question (although it certainly can be if you'd like), but what does "Easter" mean to you personally? It means sweets and candy.
5. When I was a kid, we didn't have plastic Easter Eggs (except for those that came with Mom's L'eggs pantyhose), so we always hid real eggs. One Easter I remember I threw away a broken egg in my bedroom trash can and it took me weeks before I realized why my room smelled like something died in there. Do you have any funny or memorable Easter stories? Not really.
6. I currently watch way, way too many TV shows. In fact, I feel some relief that some are being cancelled or are ending because I just can't give any of them up. Is there anything you do too much of and just can't stop? Just drugs. Hahah, just kidding. I probably drink more coffee than I should.
7. Long ago, I took a leadership seminar. At one point the leader gave his philosphy on life: the three things that matter most in life are "your family, your religion and your job, and what they mean to you." Would you agree? What are the three things that matter most in life? My family, my friends and my ambition I think (since I don't have a job at the moment, I'm saying ambition- hopes of finding a job.) Although I think hopes and dreams are up there as well. So I guess I sort of agree.
BONUS: Were you just being kind, or am I losing my mind? Just being kind! ;-)

Monday Memories - Swimming Lessons
Did you ever have swimming lessons? How did you learn to swim.. what do you remember about that? If you can't swim, why not? I had swimming lessons when I was little. I hated them. They used to push your head down into the water and make you do this thing called a spider walk up the wall of the pool. I didn't like that at all. There's something wrong with a swimming instructor pushing your head under water, when you still can't swim. Eventually my dad taught me how to swim in our neighbor's pool.

From Sunday:

Take a wander around the net
Peeps Research is a web site showing various research/studies done on Peeps. Pretty funny. My favorite has to be the smoking and alcohol study. And to add to the Easter candy web sites, here's an ode to Cadbury Creme Eggs! Yum!(all via popculturejunkmail) Peep Plays- Romeo and Juliet, the Blair Witch Project and other plays acted out by Peeps!

Lite Bright! Now you can play it on the web! Although there aren't any templates like in the original, it's still neat. This was one of my favorite toys as a kid. (flash) Another fun one on the same site is hangman.

Got a friend you'd love to have a beer with but the distance is too great? Send them a vitual beer!

How well do you know what the opposite sex really means? Find out by playing Hidden Meanings of the Opposite Sex (flash). Also a good sized list of flash games here.
Photo Friday
Topic for this week is water. I took a few pictures and this one was my favorite.
Theme Thursday
The theme for this week was words.

Thursday Threesome - Family Waffle & Grill
Onesome: Family- Hmmm... It seems like this weekend is a get together time for some people. How about you? Do you have a family gig to attend this weekend? Hosting one? ...or are you spending the weekend doing weekend things? I have one family thing this weekend. But the rest of the weekend is going to be mostly normal weekend things.
Twosome: Waffle- Okay, here's the tough one: Waffles or Pancakes? You should hear the discussions in some households! ...and what about those Belgian things? Inquiring minds want to know! Ooh this is a tough call to make. I really like both of them. I have the hardest time deciding between them at restaurants.
Threesome: & Grill- The outdoor cooking season is close at hand! For those who live large outdoors, are we talking grilling or barbecuing? If you enjoy cooking outside, what is your specialty? ...and for the indoor crowd: do you cook anything reminiscent of outdoor cookery? We don't have a grill, although I'd love to have one. Someday maybe. But I do have a cast iron grill pan that simulates grilled food pretty well. I like grilling up veggies and burgers and chicken.

Thursday Thumb-Twiddler
1. "Life is like a mountain." Discuss. It's daunting to look at, and while you climb it as well, but when you get to the top, the view is amazing. I guess you could also say that one's life sticks out amongst the rest like a mountain sticks up in the landscape.
2. "Life is like a river." Defend. It ebbs and flows like a river. You may hit an eddy along the way, but those are called lessons that you have to get through in order to move on.
3. "Life is like an open plain." Explain. Um. I guess they are similar in that the possibilites for the future are vast like the space of an open plain. (??)

Let's Start Cooking!
Today I found Simmer Stock, a nice blog today all about cooking. Definitely worth wandering around. That site led me to take a look at Honest Cuisine, which is a collabroative type journal on food and is described as "Honest Cuisine is all about context: Quality ingredients mixed with thoughtful preparation and presentation enthusiastically shared with others in a special place at a special time." A very neat idea.
Like farmer's markets? You can find your nearest one here (via sautewednesday) or try here. Dates and locations are listed as well. Sweet! I can't wait until the ones around here open up again!
Also sort of nifty is the food bloogers web ring- a listing of food related weblogs- currently a small list but I'd love to see it grow. This is the food blog for the guy who runs the site. From his site I found a link to the Boston Cooking School Cookbook from 1918 which was the last edition to be edited by Fannie Farmer. Check it out. Another cooking web ring I found today is blogs that cook (put together by Christine of This or That Tuesday).

Ever wonder when the food festivals happen? Well, wonder no longer. Here's a list of festivals around the US sorted by month. The one I would love to go to most is the Gilroy Garlic Festival which happens in July. There's also a list of all garlic festivals. And for your amusement check out this unusual garlic flavored product!
Mummies, Lost Arks and Long Copy Ads- A very interesting article on copywriting (and creating in general really) from Communication Arts that compares writing to being an archeologist.
Sunny Days are here again!
This or That Tuesday
1. File taxes as early as possible, or wait until the last possible minute? Usually early, but never the last possible minute.
2. File electronically, or mail paper forms? Mail paper forms.
3. Prepare your own taxes, or have someone do it for you? Do my own.
4. Are you a saver or a spender? Saver...when I can.
5. Do you prefer to carry cash, or pay with plastic (credit/debit cards), or by check? Either debit or cash. If I don't have the money, I usually don't buy it. At least that's what I try to do.
6. You're broke and desperately need a job, but the only places that are hiring are retail or fast food places. Which would you pick? Retail.
7. Keeping track of your money: are you more meticulous or careless about it? Somewhere in the middle.
8. What do you do if you find yourself with a lot of change weighing down your purse/pocket/wallet? Do you try to spend it to *get rid of it*, or do you put it in a jar or a piggy bank? Put it in a jar- and when the jar gets full, I get it changed to cash.
9. Which form of fake money do you like better...Monopoly money or those chocolate coins covered with gold foil? Chocolate coins- the taste better.
10. Thought-provoking question of the week: You find a wallet containing $5,000 in cash, as well as several credit cards and the owner's drivers' license. Your rent is due tomorrow and you're short $200. Do you take the money (some or all of it) and mail back the wallet anonymously...or do you return the wallet with all contents intact? Return it with all contents intact. Who knows you could get a reward for bringing it back. And if not, it's the right thing to do.

Tuesday Too
1.) How would you explain the impossible? The impossible is something that never ever could be or be done. Ever.
2.) Invent, and define a new word for the dictionary of the future? cirling- the circles that appear on furniture from glasses and mugs and that sort of thing.
3.) Was the media coverage of the war biased? Did you watch the coverage? Why, or why not? Yes it was. At least in a way. All media of that sort has propoganda in it. True it may not have been as bad as in the past, but there's always a propaganda spin on things of that nature. I watched the coverage a little bit, just to see what was going on and if anything major happened, but other than that, I didn't really watch. Part of the reason for that was that the "talking heads" had nothing new to say and would say the same things over and over again. Another reason was I didn't need to see people being killed live on television.

Monday Madness
1. Which one pet that you've owned in your life was/is your favorite? Why? My cat Carmella. She is the sweetest, most wonderful cat in the world.
2. What one thing have you always wanted to try, but have been too afraid to? Do you still want to try it? Hmm. I really can't think of anything.
3. If you could invent something, what would you invent? Give it a name... Let's see. What would I invent? Honestly I can't think of anything, although in the past I've had some ideas for a couple of things. Dang my brain.

Monday Memories- Birthday Cake
Do you remember a special birthday cake? Was it yours? Who made it? Do you remember how old you were?
When I was turning 6 or 7 (I think), my mom let me help with my cake. It was a yellow cake with chocolate frosting. I decided I wanted to decorate it with jellybeans. It looked pretty. But talk about a sugary cake!

Sampling the Sunday Sampler
It's finally decent out! There's an actual Spring feel out there. I love it. And we're supposed to be getting nice weather for the next few days at least. Woohoo! So happy about that. Oh and there's a new Futurama on tonight. Things are looking up.

and now...Unconsious Mutterings - I say … and you think … ?

Kick-Butt Teriyaki Marinade
Coriander Teriyaki (via epicurious.com)
1 teaspoon coriander seeds, coarsely ground in an electric coffee/spice grinder
1 1/2 tablespoons soy sauce
2 teaspoons packed brown sugar
2 teaspoons minced peeled fresh ginger
1 garlic clove, minced
1 teaspoon vegetable oil
1/4 cup fresh cilantro leaves

Press coriander onto both sides of meat and put on a large plate. Stir together soy sauce, brown sugar, ginger, garlic, and oil and pour over steak, turning steak to coat. Marinate, turning occasionally, 10 minutes. Cook it up!
This works well with steak (pretty much any type- I did it with steak tips and oh it is good) or chicken. Super delish! I didn't have any coriander seeds, so I left that out, and it was still amazing. I bet this would be great on fish as well.

A rainy Saturday
Saturday Scruples
1. You're late for a meeting but you path is blocked by an endless funeral procession. You see a gap. Do you dart through it? No. It's just a meeting. Disrespecting the dead is very bad karma.
2. The teacher asks if you wrote your son's history essay. Your son claimed he did it but the teacher's right. Do you admit it? I'd say I helped him but didn't write the whole thing.
3. The only other occupants of the sauna are an attractive young couple giving each other a massage. They offer to include you. Do you accept? No.

Past, Present, Future
PAST: When we're kids we want to be noticed, adored, and most of all, world-famous. What crazy, improbable scheme did you plan to ride to the top? At one point I had wanted to be an actress.
PRESENT: What would you like to be famous for now? Creating effective and ground-breaking advertising.
FUTURE: The eyes of the world are upon you as you stand, award clasped to your chest, before the cameras. Who, in your acceptance speech, do you thank? My parents, my family, my friends and my teachers/mentors.

Photo Friday
This week's topic was "skin". I took a few pics. First I did some of my skin. Then I did an orange. After playing with some settings on my camera, I also did some negative art with them. It's interesting how they look somewhat similar in the negative art.

Theme Thursday
This week's theme was red. So here is a red candle that I saved years ago (our neighbors were going to throw it away).

The second picture is the same candle. Someone (*ahem*) thought it would be cool to carve a face into it and have the hot wax come out of the mouth. It was pretty cool when it did that. And it gave me something to photograph :-)

Can't stop, addicted to the shin dig...
Flag-O-Rama!- The Tampons of Glory really take the cake! (sorry, I know tampons and cake are not really the best things to put together.)

Stencil Revolution- Some very cool artwork. These artists use an "urban canvas" to complete their art. Much nicer stuff than the tagging or whatever. Neat.

Domino Artwork- Using some computer software to know how best to position the dominos, these guys recreate photographs and paintings in dominos. It's along the same lines of another artist (can't remember his name) who does similar pictures using other pictures to form one big one. Still pretty neat.

Instructoart- Kitchy instruction art. I like the artist's statement too.

How much is inside?- New stuff from cockeyed.com. Actually check out the main page here for even more stuff.

Advertising from women's magazines of the 1920s, 1930s, and 1940s- Some of the ideas then were a bit scary. But it's interesting to look at the way it was done. Also Woman as portrayed in British WWII advertising and more women's ads in the 1950s.
De do do do de da da da...is all I want to say to you
Weekly Wrap-Up - Alternate Realities
1. If you could live in any fictional (movies, television, books, etc.) reality, what would it be? Why? That's tough. I guess I'll pick Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy.
2. If you could bring any fictional (movies, television, books, etc.) character to life, who would it be? Why? Um...Marvin the robot I guess.
3. If you could time travel, where would you go? Why? To the birth of the universe, because that would be quite a sight to see.
4. If you could bring any historical figure into the 21st century, who would it be? Why? Galileo. He was made fun of (and excommunicated) for his ideas, which have been made a part of our lives today. I think it would be cool for him to see what influence he has had on science.
5. The red pill or the blue pill? Why? (Brownie points if you name the movie source for this particular question.) Hmm. This sounds really familiar but I can't place it. No brownies for me :(

Oh what a beautiful mornin', oh what a beautiful day...
Speak n Spell- Remember Speak n Spell? Man, I used to love that thing. Now you can play it online. It even has the same computerized voice. Cool beans! (via popculturejunkmail.com)

A Celebration Of Ingenuity In Advertising- This article takes a look at some of the creative ways Passover has been used in advertising.

Nokia lauches search for new talent at universities- It's an interesting idea. Although it's not the best news for the ad agencies who handle the account.

A return to the past- Pepsi and WB team up to present two new shows this summer- " The Burbank-based network and the beverage giant announced a partnership Wednesday that will create two new shows: A live music countdown with top-selling recording artists called "Pepsi Smash" and a contest with a two-hour finale -- "Pepsi Play for a Billion" -- in which a participant will have a shot at $1 billion."

New Yorkie chocolate bar campaign- continues the same "not for girls" theme. Article contains to images of the billboards.
Thursday Memes
Thursday Thumb-Twiddler
1. If you could script the basic plot for the dream you will have tonight, what would it be? Um, I don't know. I guess me having a great time, and having everything I hope for come true.
2. What one thing do you personally believe all people should do or experience at least once in their lifetime, just to say they've done it? Well, I can't think of anything just for the sake of saying you've done it. I think people should travel to other countries to see what the world is like though. I think it's important to see that sort of thing for yourself, rather than be fed it by media.
3. If you knew it would, within twenty years, halve the incidence of violent crime, would you want to eliminate all physical violence from television and film? I guess so. I'm not really against violence on tv or in films but if it could be proven that it really does make that much of a difference on the behaviour of society, then I guess it would be a sacrifice worth doing.

Thursday Threesome - It's Daylight Savings Time Again::
Time to: Are you a punctual person, always on time? Or do people have to tell you that everything starts an hour earlier than it really does, just so you'll be on time? Or are you somewhere in between? Somewhere in between. I'm not always on time but I'm also sometimes early.
Spring: After a long week, what puts a spring in your step? How do you spend your downtime? With friends, fooling around on the net, listening to music that makes me happy, and some other things I'm sure that I can't think of at the moment.
Forward: As we enter Daylight Savings Time and the clocks spring forward, do you like having that "extra" hour of daylight or would you rather just not mess with it? Or do you live in an area that doesn't follow DST? It is nice to have the extra hour of daylight. Especially in the summer when there are lots of outside activities to do. But it is really hard to adjust for the first couple of days when we lose that hour.

3 for Thursday: Animal, Vegetable or Mineral
1. What are your 3 favorite animals (fish, rodents and snakes can be included).
Dolphins, Turtles/Tortioses, and Monkeys/Apes of all kinds. (There's more than that but...that's 3 of them)
2. What are your 3 favorite veggies (potatoes can be included).
Sweet potatoes, articokes, and tomatoes.
3. What are your 3 favorite minerals (you know, like gold and silver).
Opals, Amythests, and silver.
BONUS:
If you could be an animal, what would you be? Why? A turtle. They live long and are great!
If you could be a veggie, what would you be? Why? Hmm. I guess I'd be a eggplant because they are purple and I love that colour (can't you tell ;-) )
If you could be mineral, what would you be? Why? An opal. They are very pretty.

3XThursday 4/10/2k3 : Sequential Art in Time
1. What animated TV show or movie past or present do you totally love above all the rest. Why do you think that is? Hard to pick but I absolutely *love* Futurama! Thank the gods that Cartoon Network put them on, since Fox seems to have their executive heads up their corporate asses. I also love The Simpsons and The Family Guy (another bad move by Fox for cancelling it, and a winning move by Cartoon Network to add it to their Adult Swim!). I also like Courage the Dog and Space Ghost Coast to Coast.
2. There are some animated shows that are such a dumb idea that I can't believe that people actually watch them or that studio executives actually put down money for these monstrosities. What animated TV shows really makes you want to change the channel and go wash your hands?
King of the Hill. Besides the fact that Fox has constantly bumped Futurama for this crap show...it's very rarely even slightly amusing.
3. If you personally were going to be written in as a new character in an animated show what show would it be and how would you get along with the existing characters? Hmm. I guess I'd want to be on Futurama. That would be cool. I think I'd get along with the characters pretty well.

Check out this 404 page here. It's good for a larf.

This or That Tuesday - Who is:
1. Sexier (female)...Pamela Anderson or Jennifer Garner? Hmm. Not crazy about either but I'll pick Anderson I guess.
2. Sexier (male)...Ben Affleck or Matt Damon? Ewww. I can't stand either of them. I refuse to pick.
3. The better piano player...Billy Joel or Elton John? Billy Joel I guess. They are both good.

You're never there..
It's Hypernova, baby- "Two billion years ago, in a far-away galaxy, a giant star exploded, releasing almost unbelievable amounts of energy as it collapsed to a black hole. The light from that explosion finally reached Earth at 6:37 a.m. EST on March 29, igniting a frenzy of activity among astronomers worldwide. This phenomenon has been called a hypernova, playing on the name of the supernova events that mark the violent end of massive stars. During the first minute after the explosion it emitted energy at a rate more than a million times the combined output of all the stars in the Milky Way. If you concentrated all the energy that the sun will put out over its entire 9 billion-year life into a tenth of a second, then you would have some idea of the brightness."

PromoGuy's Monday Mission
1. Would you rather impress or influence others? Why? Which do you tend to do more than the other? I think impress. Too much reponsibility in influencing others. I think I tend to impress more than influence.
2. Are you able to admit your weaknesses to others? How do you handle your weaknesses (Can you accept them and see them as a strength? (Do you strive to overcome them? etc.) Most of them. I'm still working on that a bit though. Some of them I have come ot accept, others I'm working on trying to change.
3. How do you react when you are bossed around, treated as inferior or taken advantage of? I get angry. If I can change the situation I will try.
4. Do you live your life to meet your own needs, or do you live to meet the needs of others? Why? I think I do a bit of both. You have to have balance.
5. This is your Mission on Mondays, but what is your mission in life? To rule the universe! hah..actually I don't know if that has been made clear yet.
6. Can you focus on your goals and achieve them, or are you sidetracked by minor distractions along the way? Depending on the project, and how much I want to get it done, I can go through and get it done or become easily distracted.
7. When was the last time you cried? What were you feeling at that moment (anger, sadness, etc.)? Last week. I was feeling sad.
BONUS: Who can it be knocking at my door? Must be those crazy Men at Work ;o)

Saturday Scruples
1. Outside a conference room in a hotel, participants are enjoying sandwiches, coffee, and pastries. You could use some refreshment. Do you help yourself? I'd be tempted but don't think I would.
2. It's a sweltering night and you don't have air conditioning. Your new neighbors are away and their swimming pool looks inviting. Do you cool off in it? If they have said in the past that I could use it, I would. Otherwise I wouldn't.
3. Your teenager nervously confesses that s/he is sexually attracted to his/her own sex. Do you react in a supportive way? You bet. Of course I would. As long as they are happy, that is all that would matter.
Robert Opie Collection- an assortment of funky stuff!

The weekend is near
Thursday Thumb-Twiddler
1. Would you be willing to commit perjury for a friend? For example, would you testify under oath that your friend was driving carefully when she hit a pedestrian, even though she had actually been joking aorund and not paying attention? I'd feel awful to do it but, I think I'd have to.
2. Would you rather have a legal system that never punishes the innocent but often lets the guilty go free, or a system that sometimes punishes the innocent but never frees the guilty? Tough question. I guess the second option.
3. On your death a memorial fund is going to be established in your name, with a substantial amount of money endowing it. For what cause would you want the money to be used? Hmmm. Either to help fund school theatre departments or to help kids with a scholarship who are planning to study advertising/communications. Or to help homeless animals. I can think of more but that's enough ;o)

Thursday Threesome - April Showers Bring May Flowers
Onesome: April Showers- What the heck? Snow again in the East (and other places) over the weekend? How are the heck are we supposed to get out into the garden? What's the forecast for this weekend where you are? I don't know. I don't think it's supposed to be Springy though. Dangit.
Twosome: Bring- Bring in the clowns! Yeah, do you get any help around the garden (house/apartment)? ...or when it comes to flowers, are you the Lone Arranger? Don't have any flowers/plants yet, so no. I'm the one who gets the flowers for the livingroom and that kind of thing though.
Threesome: May Flowers- Ah, yes, posies and pretties for everyone to enjoy... How about you? What is your favorite flower? ...and not only to receive: what do you enjoy growing at your place? I love purple roses. And irises. For a garden I also like lavendar and other herbs and sunflowers.

Hump Day
Wednesday What-Ifs
1. What if a circus offered you $10,000 for your favorite pet? I wouldn't take it.
2. What if you were offered $10,000 to star in a 1-hour porn movie? Nope.
3. What if your school offered you $50,000 to flunk out (not graduate)? I'd say no. It wouldn't be enough to reimburse me for the amount I payed them!
4. What if you were offered $100,000 for your most prized possession? I'm not quite sure what that would be, but I would guess that I'd take it because I could just buy another one with the money.
5. What if a hospital offered you $1,000,000 for one of your hand's fingers (all five, and you could pick which hand)? Eek. Odd question. I don't think so.

Hi-ho, Hi-ho, it's off to work we go....la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la...Hi-ho, Hi-ho...
